Kelowna RCMP say a brazen daytime shooting inside a car rental agency on Monday is gang related.
Two men were hit with bullets inside of the Budget office located near Highway 97 and Leathead Road around noon on Monday. The two men were returning a rental vehicle when a third man walked in and started shooting.
Cst. Steve Holmes says the most seriously injured is a Vernon resident who is known to be a member of the Independent Soldiers gang. He was wearing body armour at the time of the shooting and is now recovering from non-life threatening injuries.
The second victim was not as seriously hurt, and has been discharged from the hospital. Holmes says police have spoken with him.
The identity of the suspect still is not known.
Mike Roberts, superintendent with school district #23 for Central Okanagan told CTV News approximately eight schools were temporarily locked down during the manhunt.
