The Lower Mainland's Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is now looking into Saturday's riot at Mountain Institution in Aggasiz which resulted in the death of a notorious child sex offender.

Corrections officials are speaking with inmates a cell-by-cell search is underway. Police and prison officials are also trying to determine if the incident was staged to target 39 year old sex offender and child pornographer Michael Gibbon.

He was killed and another inmate was injured when prisoners began breaking windows in the institution's gym on Saturday night and then turned on each other.

The Integrated Homicide investigation Team was called in to conduct the investigation into the death of the inmate. Police say they will be interviewing staff and inmates in an attempt make a determination as to what occurred during the disturbance.

Inmate Michael Andrew Gibbon was serving an indeterminate sentence for sexual offences.
