A preliminary hearing is being held in Colorado for a British Columbia man charged with sexual assault.
Colby Messer of Port Alberni faces six counts of sexual assault related to an alleged attack in a Denver hotel room last November.
A 27-year-old woman complained she met several men at a hotel bar, had drinks with them and could remember little else.
Lynn Kimbrough with the Denver district attorney's office called it a brutal crime.
Messer, who is 30, was arrested in March when he returned to the United States.
Three other B.C. men who were with him in Denver last year have not been charged, although Kimbrough has said the case remains open.
