Firefighters are responding to a wildfire that ignited on Mount Boucherie in West Kelowna on Tuesday.

The blaze started around 3 p.m. on the south side of the mountain in an area authorities describe as rugged park land.

Though there are homes in the area, the RCMP said no structures are threatened by the roughly two-hectare fire. No evacuation alerts or orders have been issued.

East Boundary Road has been closed to all traffic between Daimler and Elk roads to ensure public safety.

Mounties are also asking motorists on Highway 97 not to put other motorists at risk by stopping and looking at the fire. On Okanagan Lake, boaters are urged to stay out of the way of helicopters filling buckets of water.
