George Abbott and Kevin Falcon are endorsing each other as their second choices to lead the BC Liberals.

The two MLAs announced their preferences as party members began voting for their next leader Saturday morning.

"I've placed George Abbott as my second choice," Falcon told CTV News.

"I think that if I'm unable to win, I think George has demonstrated the second-best ability to hold the caucus together and be able to keep our coalition united."

On hearing the news, Abbott sent a tweet Falcon's way: "Thanks for the support Kevin!"

Abbott returned the favour, marking Falcon as his second choice for party leader and premier designate.

The moves seem designed to elbow out the apparent frontrunner, Christy Clark. She has yet to endorse a second choice.

Falcon described Clark as a "good candidate," but expressed doubt that she would be able to unite the party's coalition of federal Conservatives and Liberals.

"I think you have to understand our party members are a lot more sophisticated than that and they'll be looking at who can keep our coalition together," he said.
