Canadian authorities say a woman believed to be living in Vancouver's downtown east side may be heir to a small European fortune.

Lucia Leiser may be the rightful owner of an estate worth more than $300,000, bequeathed to her recently by a relative.

But before she can claim her fortune -- she has to be found.

Toronto lawyer Robert Price says he was hired by a German bank to search for Leiser, and that the heiress may turn up in B.C.

"I received telephone calls from two women who told me they are friends of Lucia," Price said.

"And these women have some information with regards to associations she's had in Vancouver that assist homeless people."

Some east side residents who were shown Leiser's photograph said they recognized her - but that they had not heard from her in years.

As Price's search continues, Leiser's story remains a mystery - with a fairy tale ending waiting to be written.
