One of the most spectacular things to watch during the Games will be the Vectorial Elevation – an interactive light show above Vancouver.

Using 20 large robotic searchlights around English Bay, light sculptures will be visible from a distance of 15 kilometres and the pattern will change every 12 seconds.

Anyone with access to the Internet can design their own light patterns and submit their design to be part of the display.

The show will light up the night sky for the next 24 days.

The project will use 200 kilowatts of power, about a tenth of the energy used during a typical hockey game.

While the lights are the brightest in the world, they are tightly concentrated.
