Mounties say the two victims of an overnight drive-by shooting in Coquitlam are remaining tight-lipped about the incident, and are well-known for their criminal activity.

Twenty minutes after police received reports of shots fired on Clarke Road, the men, both 28, showed up at the Coquitlam RCMP detachment looking for protection.

"Basically looking for their protection," Sgt. Peter Thiessen said.

They were rushed to hospital for treatment.

Thiessen said evidence suggests the early morning shooting was targeted and it is linked to gangs and drugs.

Both of the men are well-known to police and have refused to cooperate with investigators.

Based on the victim's prior history with police, RCMP are considering links to the targeted shooting of gangster Gurmit Singh Dahk two months ago in a Burnaby mall parking lot.

Police teams spent much of Friday morning scouring the scene for evidence and canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses.

Anyone with information about this incident should call the Coquitlam RCMP or Crimestoppers.
