Two people are dead and more injured after a string of car accidents across Metro Vancouver on the weekend.

A 75-year-old pedestrian was killed after he was hit by a van in Coquitlam. The collision happened just after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Mariner Way and Dewdney Trunk Road. It was raining hard at the time of the crash.

Fire crews and ambulance personnel were on the scene and the man was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver stayed at the scene of the collision and is cooperating with police.The man’s identity is not being released to respect his family’s privacy.

Any witnesses are asked to call Coquitlam RCMP Traffic Services at 604-945-1550.

In Surrey a woman was killed after a bad crash at the corner of Highway 10 and 132nd Street at around 4 p.m.Police said a CRV travelling eastbound was turning left onto 132nd when it was t-boned by a Honda Civic. Five others were injured in this incident.

Another woman was hit by a car at 140th Street and Bear Creek Drive in Surrey while she was out for her morning walk on Saturday. She is now fighting for her life in the hospital.

ICBC says Thanksgiving weekend is one of the worst ones on the roads as people travel further and longer in often slippery conditions. An average of three people are killed and more than 500 are injured across the province on this weekend each year.

The investigations are both ongoing and investigators are determining whether speed was a factor in the cases.
