Snowboarders were feeling the heat Sunday at an important Olympic test event, but it wasn't from other competitors.
The third and final day of World Cup snowboardcross and half pipe competition at Cypress Mountain was cancelled after the warm weather created soft snow conditions and poor terrain.
Organizers are also blaming the cancellation on what they call the "limited time to prepare the course both in advance of the event and in between the last two events."
The men's and women's Parallel Giant Slalom were affected by the cancellation. Veteran Alexa Loo of Richmond had been due to compete, and was "very disappointed".
The Vancouver Olympic Committee wrapped up operational testing at Cypress Mountain which began on Friday.
Tim Gayda, VANOC vice president, sport, played down the impact that similar weather conditions on the mountain could have on snow quality when the 2010 Games start this time next year.
"This will not happen next year for the 2010 Olympic Games as we'll be on the mountain much sooner with significantly more time to prepare the competition hills, and we will have twice as much time between these two events to convert the course," he said.
Gayda added that general feedback from competitors and spectators for the other days of competition had been positive.
