Roughly 40,000 concert-goers are expected to begin arriving in Pemberton Thursday for what will be the biggest outdoor festival in British Columbia this year.
For one weekend, Pemberton will dwarf cities the size of Mission and Vernon, as music fans gather to watch a lineup that includes Coldplay, Jay-Z, Tom Petty and the Tragically Hip.
On Wednesday evening, preparations for the big festival where running ahead of schedule.
The tents were up, the food trailers were on site, and the vendors were preparing their wares, hoping to turn a profit.
Come Monday morning, festival organizer Shane Bourbonnais was estimating that 3,500 people will have played some part in putting the party on. That includes the 770 unpaid volunteers.
With so many people converging on the region, the RCMP were warning of possible congestion on the highway between Whistler and Pemberton.
As a result, police are warning concert-goers to plan ahead and leave home early to compensate for the extra time that they will likely spend on the road.
