The Coquihalla Highway will probably remain closed all week because bad weather is stopping crews from their cleanup.

Crews that are using helicopters to places explosives high up on avalanche chutes and knock down potential slides can't make it because of poor weather, Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon said on Monday.

The highway -- a major route into B.C.'s Interior -- has been closed since Thursday, when an avalanche blocked the road.

In Northern B.C., another highway has been closed after an slide rolled over Highway 97 near Chetwynd just before noon Monday.

One commercial fuel truck driver was caught in the slide, but he was dug out by other travellers, local RCMP announced. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

The slide at Link Creek is estimated at between 125 and 250 metres wide and up to 10 metres deep, the local RCMP announced.

The ministry of transportation has closed the highway between the Mackenzie Junction north of Prince George and Chetwynd. RCMP said that the highway is expected to be closed for several days.

An alternative route from the Peace Region of B.C. to Central and Southern B.C. would be to use Highway 40 in Alberta.

The Provincial Emergency Program has been called and an avalanche expert is en route to the area, the RCMP said. Once the expert has deemed the area safe, then snow removal equipment will begin to clear the highway.
