The Coquihalla Highway is expected to reopen by Friday afternoon.
Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon has just wrapped up a briefing on the state of Highway 5, which has been closed since last Thursday by an extreme avalanche risk.
Falcon says a three-kilometre section of the main route between the Lower Mainland and the B.C. Interior is blocked by as much as three metres of snow.
But he says avalanche technicians have managed to blast away the unstable snow hanging above the highway.
Falcon says crews will work around the clock to clear the highway to have reopen it by Friday.
