Police in Maple Ridge are investigating a drive-by shooting, the latest in a string of targeted shootings in British Columbia.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired near a home in the 20200 block of Ditton Ave. around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police believe it was a targeted attack.
"We have a 22-year-old male, who is uninjured, standing outside his home at the time, that appears to be the victim of this incident," says Ridge Meadows RCMP Sgt. Warren Tomalty.
Tomalty says there doesn't appear to be any connection to Lower Mainland gangs or any recent gangland-style murders in the Lower Mainland.
Officers are now looking for a dark blue SUV they believe was used in the shooting.
Getting tough on crime
On Thursday, Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected to announce tough new anti-gang laws, including a new criminal code offence for drive-by shootings.
The next is an automatic charge of first-degree murder for any gang-related killing.
