The same man who scaled Vancouver’s Trump Tower is at it again, as new footage of him climbing a trestle bridge without safety gear has surfaced.
Joseph McGuire first made headlines last year after his Trump Tower escapade, and again last April after suffering a serious fall at the Fairmont Hotel downtown.
McGuire plummeted nine metres after attempting to climb the roof, suffering arm, shoulder, and spinal injuries in the process.
“If I die, then hey – at least I enjoy what I do,” McGuire told CTV News at the time.
In the most recent video, McGuire and another man are seen perched precariously on the Goldstream trestle bridge in Victoria, B.C.
The men balance on rusty beams, even dangling over the edge more than 100 metres above the ground – all with no safety gear.
Stunts such as this one have landed McGuire in trouble in the past. He was charged after scaling the 24-storey Eau Claire Tower in Calgary last year.
The climber said he was ultimately only ordered to perform community service, later insisting he’d retire and warning others not to follow in his footsteps.
“This was one of the turning points of my life that helped me to assess my reasons for what I do. Chasing novelty is never ending,” he said at the time.
“You may feel the jolt, but you will feel empty once it’s all over. If you enjoy it for what it is, it becomes something special and your happiness is independent from it.”
It’s still unclear authorities plan to pursue any action over his most recent trestle bridge climb.
