Tuesday's brazen downtown jewelry store robbery was one of the largest in Vancouver's history, according to police.
Three men stormed into Birks Jewelers at Hastings St. and Granville St. just past 4 p.m. demanding all staff and customers - huddle in a back room.
No shots were fired and everyone emerged unharmed, but victims were visibly shaken when police arrived.
The men went from display case to display case grabbing everything they could.
"One was armed with a handgun," says Vancouver Police Inspector Bob Chapman. "They smashed some display cases and made off with a sizeable amount of jewelry."
The three men fled on foot from the store, heading east on Hastings St.
Investigators are now viewing surveillance video from inside the store in the hope of identifying the suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call Vancouver Police or Crimestoppers.
