British Columbia's Sea to Sky Highway will reopen on Saturday night at 11:00 p.m., says B.C. Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon.
"We may do even better than that,'' he told reporters on Saturday evening.
A section of the highway between Vancouver and Whistler has been blocked since a massive rock slide buried the road just before midnight on Tuesday.
That rock slide sparked a round-the-clock effort to remove rocks the size of buses from a road which is used by commuters and tourists to get from Vancouver to communities such as Squamish, Furry Creek and Whistler.
On Saturday afternoon, Mike Oliver, the chief geotechnical engineer for the B.C. Ministry of Transportation said crews were still doing some rock scaling above the slide area at Porteau Cove.
But once the scaling is complete, he said crews will clear the rest of the debris, either by pushing it into the waters of Howe Sound, or taking it away by truck.
Oliver said the section of the road affected by the slide must be resurfaced before it can be opened to traffic.
