Lawyers resume arguments before three B.C. appeal court judges today on whether people born by egg or sperm donation should have the right to learn the identity of their biological parents.
A B.C. government lawyer told the judges yesterday a lower court erred last year in favouring a woman conceived at a Vancouver fertility clinic.
Olivia Pratten sued the province and won in an attempt to ensure others like her will have the opportunity to know their heritage.
A judge ordered clinics to keep donor records intact, at least until the case is ultimately settled.
Pratten expects her endeavour will go all the way to Canada's highest court to reach conclusion.
Her lawyer argued in court that donor offspring have the same needs as adopted people when it comes to learning about their backgrounds and should be treated equally.
