Homicide detectives were on scene at two separate suspicious deaths in Surrey on Sunday, one a fatal shooting and the other a sudden death in a home.

The shooting took place shortly before 3 a.m. in the area of 88th Avenue and 126th Street, said Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Stephanie Ashton.

One man was taken to hospital, where he died from his injuries, Ashton said.

Police have not released the victim’s name or age, but Ashton said they believe the shooting was targeted. Anyone who saw or heard anything in the area at 3 a.m. is asked to contact police.

The shooting is at least the 22nd case of shots fired in Surrey and neighbouring Delta since March 9th.

Police said they cannot speculate on whether this incident is related to the ongoing “turf war” between low-level drug dealers in the area.

Sunday’s shooting did occur in the same area as some of those earlier incidents.

Also on Sunday, IHIT was investigating a suspicious death at a home in the 13800 block of Hansen Road.

Police were called to the residence in the early morning hours on Saturday, where a 57-year-old man was found dead by his roommates, IHIT said.

Police arrested one man in connection with the incident, but IHIT investigators released him without charges, pending further investigation.

Ashton said police believe the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Anyone who heard an altercation at the home between 1 and 4 a.m. on Friday is asked to contact IHIT investigators at 877-551-4448.
