Crews from District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue have retrieved a woman and her dog from Lynn Creek.
The woman was walking the dog along the shore of the river shortly before noon on Saturday when the animal jumped into the water, according to district fire and rescue assistant chief Mike Cairns.
When the woman went into the water to save the dog, the pair ended up on the other side of the river, Cairns said.
The woman suffered a minor leg injury, he said, but both she and the dog were safely removed from the water.
“We do get quite a few of these calls,” Cairns told CTV News. “You’ve just got to be very aware walking your dogs in these canyons. There’s unstable areas, and once in the water, quite often dogs get into trouble.”
He said it’s important for dog-walkers to remember that the water can be fast-moving and dangerous, even on days when it doesn’t appear so.
“You’ve just got to be aware of the river and how quick the water is moving and just be aware of where your dog is and make sure it’s not going to get into a position like this,” he said.
