Arrest made in fatal pedestrian collision: Winnipeg police

The Winnipeg Police Service have arrested a man after an 87-year-old pedestrian was killed in a crash last month.

The collision took place on Dec. 23 at the intersection of McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue.

Emergency personnel took an 87-year-old man to the hospital in unstable condition, where he died from his injuries.

The driver remained on scene and met with police.

The WPS traffic division investigated, obtained surveillance video and determined the driver was in a pickup truck travelling east on Leila when he hit a pedestrian who was crossing McPhillips at a marked pedestrian crossing.

On Sunday, police arrested a 44-year-old Winnipeg man. He faces a charge of drive carelessly – cause death. He was released on an appearance notice.
