A Grade 8 boy from West Vancouver suffered some broken bones in a fall off a cliff during a school field trip this morning.

The boy, from Rockridge Secondary, fell down a 40-foot embankment while walking with a group of about 60 students up the Cypress Falls trail during a physical education class, school officials said.

West Vancouver firefighters pulled the boy from the woods to a waiting helicopter, where he was taken to hospital.

Dave Eberwein, the West Vancouver School District assistant superintendent said the boy was conscious and communicative before being transported to the hospital.

The School Board said it will look into the incident.
