A member of the RCMP in Nanaimo, B.C., has been charged with one count of assault related to an arrest during a domestic call almost one year ago.
Const. Derek Segstro and another officer were responding to a 911 call at a local home on Nov. 8, 2009, when the suspected assault took place.
When they arrived at the home, a woman answered the door and said that everyone was fine. According to police, she refused to allow the officers inside the home, and after several warnings, they arrested her for obstructing an officer of the peace.
Segstro allegedly assaulted the woman while he was arresting her. After the officers looked inside the home, the woman was released without charges.
Segstro remains on duty while an internal investigation is underway. He is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3.
Port Coquitlam Mountie not guilty of assault
Meanwhile, Port Coquitlam RCMP Const. Ed Fox was found not guilty of assault in provincial court last week.
Fox was accused of assaulting a man during an arrest connected to a domestic incident at his home in September 2006. The suspect filed a complaint of excessive force several months later.
A judge ruled on Friday that Fox had used reasonable force in subduing the man.
