The 19-year-old victim of a seemingly random attack in New Westminster Tuesday night has died from his injuries.
Police found Karim Meskine badly injured and unconscious in the area of 23rd Street and 8th Avenue at around 7:45 p.m. Dec. 17 after a passerby called 911. He was taken to hospital where he remained in a coma.
Police believe the 16-year-old suspect charged in the incident attacked Meskine unprovoked and was attempting to rob him.
“This is one of the saddest cases I have been a part of all these years,” Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Bari Emam said.
Originally charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon, police are recommending murder charges be laid.
