A 17-year-old girl has been found near Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver a day after she wandered away from the facility.

Milena Nordwall was found shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

She had been at the hospital for treatment of an undiagnosed medical condition and has a history of running away when she disappeared, according North Vancouver RCMP Sgt. Peter DeVries.

"She has done this in the past and one of the things she does is try to stay away from the police. She might hide in a ditch, a forested area or somebody's shed or backyard," said DeVries.

Police were asking North Shore residents to check their property for the girl and to keep an eye out on transit since she has boarded the SkyTrain and buses in past incidents.

Her parents Chrystal Collison and Andrew Nordwall said Milena ran away last week and was still having trouble walking from the frostbite and injuries she sustained.

"We're just beside ourselves with worry and fear that she's out there with no shoes and a hospital robe," an emotional Nordwall told CTV News before Milena disappeared. "I don't feel that she will last long."

Milena's parents said last week she heard voices in her head telling her to go into the bush and throw away her shoes, which could have led to her latest disappearance.

"There's not a learning curve here because of the disjointed thinking," Collison explained.
