Police have arrested three men in connection with a double murder and kidnapping committed in East Vancouver over the weekend, but more suspects are believed to be on the loose.

Officers found the deceased, identified as 24-year-old Xuan Vanvy Bacao and 29-year-old Samantha Le, after being called to a home on Dieppe Place on Saturday night.

Police also discovered a four-year-old hiding inside the residence, Sgt. Brian Montague revealed at a press conference Tuesday. The child was terrified, but not physically harmed.

“Hopefully the child will be too young to remember what happened,” Montague said.

Investigators also quickly learned another man had been kidnapped. That victim was rescued from a car Monday evening during a dramatic police takedown in New Westminster, where all three suspects were taken into custody.

Unfortunately, two innocent bystanders were injured during the incident. Montague offered an apology on behalf of the department Tuesday, saying officers saw an opportunity to recover the kidnapping victim and had to act quickly.

“We took that opportunity, it is a very narrow window of opportunity that we had,” Montague said. “We apologize that someone from the public had to get caught up in something like that.”

One woman was injured when her vehicle was struck, and a man was bitten by a police dog while running away from the scene.

“He is a completely innocent person and one of our dogs grabbed a hold of him,” Montague said. “Our officers are reaching out to the family to see if there’s anything we can do to help them.”

A white SUV was seen with front-end damage following the takedown. Another white car was left sandwiched between two black vehicles, including an unmarked police cruiser.

Three men were placed in handcuffs at the scene, including one who attempted to run away with his hands restrained behind his back. He was caught shortly after in the yard of a nearby home.

None of the suspects, who are all in their 20s, have been named, but Montague said they are all facing charges.

“Their direct relationship to each other or to the victims is something I’m not able to share," he added.

Police are continuing to investigate the murders and kidnapping, which are believed to have been targeted, and are still trying to track down additional suspects.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 604-717-2500, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
