A grade nine honours class has launched a random acts of kindness project.

Tina Patterson’s honours English class at Enver Creek Secondary School in Surrey has been studying the lessons of Charles Dickens’s Christmas Carol and working on their own pay it forward projects. After seeing our stories on CTV Vancouver, they invited us to the school to share their pay it forward stories.

“We’re giving back to the teachers as they’re always there for us,” Grade 9 student Kushmut Sidhu told us.

The group did that by making cupcakes for their teachers.

Another group of students spent lunchtime with other students with special needs.

“We want to make the special needs kids feel welcome because we feel like they’re not a part of the community,” 14-year-old Seth Sen told us.

“When they become happy maybe they can pass on what we did to someone else and it could keep growing,” said student Manav Shergill.

“We gave candy canes to people with quotes about kindness and inspirational quotes to make them feel better about themselves,” added Renee Choquette.

Others random acts of kindness, done by the members of the class, were simple high fives just because they wanted to make kids feel included.

“We have kids that truly care for each other and then they continue to pay that forward to other kids,” teacher Tina Patterson told us.

And we challenged the kids to take on another project. We gave them $100 to do something good for others. They took the money, added more to it and donated $155 dollars to the Enver Cares Initiative for at-risk students.
