Police are investigating after a student found a concealed trap made of nails in a field near a Richmond high school.

The 40-mm-squared trap, which was made of nails attached to a plastic base, was found near Steveston London Secondary School on Sunday.

Police said it seemed to have been built and hidden to deliberately cause injury to people or animals.

“It was purposely concealed with grass and placed in a busy foot traffic area,” said Richmond RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang in a release. “It’s the safety of the people and pets that use this area that concern us. If you come across any similar traps in any schools or parks, please contact police. Do not remove or disturb the trap.”

Police swept the area for any other traps before school started on Tuesday, and the RCMP and the Richmond School District are currently investigating.
