A 29-year-old snowboarder from Burnaby is dead after falling into a tree well near Pemberton Sunday afternoon.

The deceased had snowmobiled into a back country area of Miller’s Ridge Forest Service Road with friends around 5 p.m. when he went missing.

He was eventually found upside down in the well, but by the time he was pulled out the snowboarder was unresponsive and blue in colour.

His friends attempted CPR but were unable to revive him.

Pemberton RCMP, firefighters and search and rescue crews were forced to leave his body overnight because of an increasing avalanche risk. They went into the area to recover the deceased Monday instead.

His name has not been released.
