A high-speed ride through Richmond and Delta was interrupted by RCMP on Sunday morning, after police say a luxury car was clocked going 180 km/h.

A white Mercedes C63 was spotted driving northbound across the Alex Fraser Bridge at 180 km/h by Air One, an RCMP helicopter. With the helicopter following, Mounties say the car headed in to Richmond before doubling back on Highway 91, hitting speeds of 150 to 160 km/h.

Traffic proved to be the driver’s downfall. RCMP say congestion on Highway 91 forced him to slow down before he was able to get back on the Alex Fraser. With officers from Deas Island RCMP and Delta police right behind the car, the driver pulled over without any further incident, said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Robert McDonald.

“It’s not something you see every day, a car hitting that kind of speed,” said McDonald. “He put everyone on the roadway at risk.”

The driver of the car appeared in court Monday morning for breaching conditions of a previous sentence.

Any witnesses to this incident are asked to call Deas Island RCMP at 604-946-2184.
