It has been three weeks since the murder of Wendy Ladner-Beaudry in Pacific Spirit Park in Vancouver, and her family is wondering why RCMP haven't put up warning signs.

There are more than 60 different entrances to the park, and the only warning signs posted tell people about a dangerous owl.

Ladner-Beaudry's brother, former Vancouver councillor Peter Ladner, is worried about the risk to the public.

"I know of a single woman seen running in the park yesterday. If she was a visitor to Vancouver, doesn't follow the media, or was away in the week following April 3rd, she would have no idea of the dangers in the park," he said.

And park user Ellen Beebe has seen several women jogging in the park wearing headphones.

"There are people going into there who know nothing about it," Beebe said. "It wouldn't hurt to put up a few posters so people know what happened. Keep an eye out for themselves and be safer."

The park's manager says he needs the go-ahead from the RCMP to put up signs in the park

"We're not prepared to do anything that will interfere with investigation," said Mitch Sokalski, the West Area Parks Manager.

But that's not what the Mounties say.

"We don't have the authority or the ability to start putting up these warning signs in Pacific Spirit Park," RCMP spokesman Peter Thiessen said.

Although there are bulletin boards at several entrances, Thiessen said the posters may fall down or be wrecked by the weather.

He directs people to the RCMP website for safety tips.

"I think you would be hard-pressed to find people in the community or neighbourhood who are not aware of this investigation," Theissen said.

But park users are still worried.

"I think if they posted it at the park, it would be more access than finding it on own your time. People come here. It's more proactive than searching info out on your own," local resident Mandy Jensen said.

RCMP handed out pamphlets Wednesday with Ladner-Beaudry's picture, description and the time of the murder in the hopes it would bring forward new information.

They will be back at it Friday morning, this time with the help of parks staff.
