A B.C. Mountie is facing impaired driving charges after she was picked up after leaving a Langley casino.

The officer was stopped after the Langley RCMP detachment received a complaint about a suspected impaired driver leaving the Cascades Casino on Fraser Highway on Friday.

The driver was later identified as an off-duty officer driving her personal vehicle. The member, whose name will not be made public until charges are approved, is assigned to the RCMP's "E" Division Headquarters.

Spokesperson Cpl. Annie Linteau calls the alleged incident disappointing.

"Every police officer has seen first-hand the trauma and heartbreak caused by drinking and driving," she said in a statement.

Langley RCMP has launched an investigation into the incident. Its results will be sent to Crown Counsel for their consideration of criminal charges.

The member makes her first court appearance August 26 in Surrey Provincial Court.

Impaired driving charges have been laid against at least five other Mounties since September, including in Vancouver, Coquitlam, Kamloops and Vernon.
