A 27-year-old Wisconsin woman fell to her death on Sunday while vacationing on Savary Island, B.C., located approximately 200 kilometres north of Vancouver.

Police believe her fatal fall over a cliff more than 100 feet high was an accident.

"It just looks like for whatever reason she lost her footing and went down the embankment," RCMP Sgt. Andy Brinton told ctvbc.ca.

The woman's fall from a cliff on the small island's south side was reported shortly before midnight on Sunday.

Officials with the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria say two rescue vessels responded to the incident. They say the woman's body has been taken to the Mainland community of Lund while an investigation continues.

The victim's name has not been released.
