A Surrey Mountie was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle reportedly smashed into a parked police cruiser outside the RCMP’s Newton office, pinning the officer between two cars.

Another Mountie in the vehicle the suspect crashed into was also seriously hurt, but both officers’ injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Police believe the suspect vehicle was driving through the office’s parking lot just before 3 p.m. when it struck the parked car, pushing it into an adjacent police vehicle and trapping the Mountie, who was on foot, between both vehicles.

The driver of the suspect vehicle wasn’t hurt and has been taken into police custody. It is unknown whether the incident was intentional.

An investigation into the crash is underway and anyone with information is asked to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
