A Facebook page shining the spotlight on some of Metro Vancouver’s most appalling parking failures has become a minor sensation online.

Creator Kim Tantongco said she started Richmond Learns to Park after seeing an abundance of truly terrible parking practices around town.

“You get everything from people double-parking to people half in the parking spot, half on the sidewalk – some in the bushes,” she said.

But Tantongco, who’s lived in Richmond for 15 years, said the city hardly has a monopoly on bad parking jobs.

Since her small handful of followers ballooned to more than 6,600, she’s been getting submissions from across Metro Vancouver, and even beyond the B.C. borders into Alberta and Washington state.

“One of the most popular photos on the page is actually from Coquitlam, where someone went up on a boulder.”

Tantongco said there are a lot of reasons drivers could commit such heinous parking offences – some may double-park to avoid getting their cars scratched by other vehicles, while others may just be in a rush – but she’s hopeful her page will help curb the practices.

“I’ve actually had someone find their parking job on the page and say, ‘Oh! I didn’t know I parked that way,’” Tantongco said.
