Vancouver police have seized the articulated trolley bus that struck and killed a 43-year-old woman near the Science World SkyTrain station Wednesday afternoon.
The northbound bus had just passed through the Main Street and Terminal Avenue intersection when it collided with the pedestrian victim at around 5 p.m.
The cause of the accident has not been confirmed, but one witness told CTV News the woman was leaning out onto the street when she was sideswiped. Another suggested the bus may have run a red light and struck the woman as she headed across the street with right-of-way.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, marking Vancouver’s 12th traffic fatality of the year. Her identity has not been released.
Coast Mountain Bus Company said the 60-foot-long vehicle involved in the crash is equipped with eight onboard cameras, including one that looks out the front window.
It’s unclear whether any of the cameras capture the circumstances of the tragic crash, however.
The company also confirmed that the driver, who has been with the company for just seven months, is getting professional counseling.
