Police are hunting for a suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at an officer in New Westminster then led authorities on a chase through Metro Vancouver.

The incident started when officers patrolling Royal Avenue found a man and woman sleeping in a white Buick Lacrosse around 10 a.m. Monday.

Police said the man pulled out a gun, aimed it at an officer and pulled the trigger, but the weapon didn’t go off.

“While members tried to get cover the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed,” the New Westminster Police Department said in a statement.

Officers tracked the car through Burnaby and Vancouver, and said it’s been involved in multiple accidents.

“As a result of fleeing from police, the vehicle has been involved in a number of hit-and-runs and will have some damage.” NWPD said.

The car was later found abandoned at about 8 p.m. in a driveway on Monday by Vancouver police officers. New Westminster’s forensic identification section now has custody of the car and is processing it.

Officers said the suspect, who is considered armed and dangerous, is a white man with dark hair, a soul patch, and a hoop earring in his left ear. He has full sleeve tattoos and a tattoo on his neck and was seen wearing a short-sleeve shirt and black baseball cap.

The woman who was in the car is described as white with reddish-orange hair and acne or pock marks on her face. She was wearing a tank top and tights with a flower pattern.

There was also a dog, described as a small pit bull, in the vehicle with them.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911 immediately.

On Tuesday morning, police said there have been no sightings of the suspects.
