Police are investigating after four men robbed a Fraser Valley convenience store wearing masks and brandishing a baseball bat.

Around 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 6, the men arrived at Bradner General Store, located in the 5400-block of Bradner Road in Abbotsford. Video surveillance shows that at least one of the four men was wielding a baseball bat.

Sixty-eight-year-old Leo Kim and his wife have been running the store for about 17 years, and his wife was working when the men came in. She ran off screaming, and her husband came to her rescue.

“[There was] yelling, screaming, and I heard that,” says Kim. “He’s coming with the bat, he’s jumping, running to my wife.”

As Kim arrived, police say three of the men fled the area in an older, four-door grey sedan – leaving the man with the bat behind.

“They essentially abandon their wingman. They leave one of their associates on site - the man with the baseball bat,” Const. Ian MacDonald told CTV News.

The suspect then attempted to hit Kim with the bat – then ran away empty-handed. That’s when Kim’s wife went after him, while her husband called 911.

“The wife flags over a Good Samaritan in a white pick-up truck. He picks her up and they attempt to follow this fleeing suspect,” confirms MacDonald, noting the suspect had removed the mask from his face by the time they caught up to him.

“[The suspect] claims that he's not associated to the events that just took place minutes ago. The Good Samaritan thinks better of confronting the robbery suspect and ultimately they return back to the store.”

Kim and his wife were unharmed but shaken, and hope the alleged suspects will soon be captured.

The suspect with the baseball bat is described as a white man in his late twenties, 5-4 tall with a thin build. He wore dark clothing during the robbery.

Police would like to speak with the Good Samaritan in the white pick-up truck who assisted the Kim’s the night of the robbery.
