Vancouver police have seized two more vans modified to carry massive amounts of fuel, weeks after a similar vehicle burst into flames on a busy street
The latest van, which was packed with several huge gas tanks, was stopped Tuesday afternoon at the Petro Canada station on Oak Street and 41st Avenue.
Few details have been confirmed but police said one person of interest was arrested at the scene.
On Monday, another van modified to carry 765 litres of fuel was pulled over at a gas station on Knight Street and 57th Avenue. Officers also seized more than 200 fraudulent credit and debit cards from the vehicle.
An 18-year-old suspect was arrested and is facing fraud charges.
The vans in both incidents share unsettling similarities with the vehicle that caught fire then crashed on Oak Street near 53rd Avenue on Oct. 7, and which police described as a “mobile Molotov cocktail.”
Investigators suspect the fuel inside was either syphoned from cars or bought with stolen credit cards.
Two men aged 19 and 25 were arrested later than day after turning up at a Coquitlam hospital with severe burns to their upper body, arms, hands, head and face.
