Vancouver police are looking for witnesses to an alleged assault that took place on a East Hastings Street near Renfrew Street on Saturday night.

Police say a man pulled a 17-year-old boy out the rear doors of an eastbound Hastings Street bus and began punching him in the face at around 9:30 p.m.

The suspect -- described as white, 40 years old, six feet tall and roughly 220 pounds -- was wearing a black baseball cap, a black leather jacket, blue jeans and black Adidas running shoes, police said.

He allegedly knocked the younger man to the ground, took his backpack and skateboard, and told him to leave the area. When the boy returned a short time later, the suspect was still at the bus stop, police said. He called his mother, who called the police.

The youth was treated in hospital for bruises and a cut to his face.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police Department at 604-717-3321 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
