The RCMP has identified a 29-year-old Maple Ridge man who was shot in the chest on Thursday night and later and died in hospital.

The victim is Sarjbit "Steve" Nagra of Maple Ridge, a man who was known to police.

Cpl. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigative Team said Police believe Nagra was the victim of a targeted attack. "It would appear from the evidence gathered so far in the investigation that no other person other than the victim was at risk from the gunfire,'' he said.

The man was shot on the 11400 block of Maple Crescent, a residential neighbourhood at about 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. He then drove himself to the hospital.

The shooting occurred on the street, police added.
