A carjacking suspect is recovering in hospital after allegedly being shot by Mounties near Cranbrook, B.C. Tuesday night.

The male suspect was pursued by officers called to investigate reports that a car was stolen from Creston.

An officer pulled over the car in Yahk and there was a confrontation that allegedly ended with police shooting the man.

The BC Ambulance Service confirmed one person was transported to Cranbrook Regional Hospital Tuesday night. His injuries are not life-threatening. A woman was also taken into custody.

B.C.'s newly formed Independent Investigations Office will be examining the case.
