BC Ferries customers are paying lower ticket prices as a result of a reduction in fuel surcharges that took effect Tuesday.

The drop in ticket prices comes about two weeks after the British Columbia Ferry Commission authorized B.C. Ferries to reduce fuel surcharges to the following percentages of base fares.

- 5.15% on the three major routes

- 8.8% on the eighteen minor routes

- 4.6% on the Horseshoe Bay-Langdale route.

As a result, a ticket price for the key Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay route has dropped to $58.75 from $61.40 previously.

The Commission said it is making the assumption that the fuel surcharges will remain at the lower dollar levels introduced on Tuesday.

However, it said fuel surcharges are subject to change, up or down, and it is currently reviewing what fuel surcharges are now appropriate.
