It was no surprise that Cameron Wake made the move to the NFL after just two seasons with the BC Lions.  But, is quarterback Buck Pierce close to cutting ties with the CFL and heading south? Pierce said six or seven NFL squads had contacted his agent, and a few had called him directly about the possibility of working out for them. While it may be a relative long shot at this point, the 27-year-old said he owes it to himself to "entertain the idea. If not for now, then maybe down the road."  With Pierce going into the option year of his contract with the Lions, the four-year veteran said there has been little discussion so far, but expects talks to happen after mid-February. No workouts have been scheduled yet but Pierce is likely to throw for at least a few teams within the next week.

In the meantime, the Lions announced today that they are changing their approach when it comes to the starting quarterback position.

"Bottom line is I want to play, and the Lions are giving me that opportunity," Pierce said. "If they're naming me the starter then I would expect they would want me around for a while."

Rather than holding a competition at training camp and awarding the title to whomever performs best, the Lions have named Buck Pierce as their lead pivot - that is, unless he ends up with an NFL team.

"[Pierce] was the starter at the end of the year. I think he's earned that," Lions Head Coach and General Manager, Wally Buono, told TSN. "We want to make sure that when we go into training camp that there's a clear order. From that point of view that's something that I want talk with everybody, make sure we're all comfortable with everything, and let this whole NFL process take care of itself."
