The disabled man found dead in his Vancouver apartment has now been classified as Vancouver's ninth homicide of the year, police said Wednesday.

Vancouver Police Cst. Jana McGuinness made a public appeal for help locating a DVD player that was missing from the home of Rick Marques, who was found dead on Monday.

It's thought that if anyone can find the DVD player, that might provide a clue to who killed Marques, who is in his 40s and whose full name is Enrique Manuel Marques.

One of Marques' relatives discovered his body in his apartment near Nanaimo St. and East 30th Avenue on Monday..

At the time, the apartment was surrounded by police tape. Officers continued to collect evidence at Marques' apartment on Wednesday.

Marques was an ICBC RoadSense speaker, who could speak to high school students about the dangers of speeding.

He lost the use of his legs in a motorcycle accident about 20 years ago.

He was well-known in the Portuguese community, according to his friends.

The missing black DVD player is a Toshiba DVD/VCR model #SDV-395.
