The man who was shot outside a Langley shopping centre on Friday has died.
Twenty-six-year-old Kevin Robert LeClair was hit with automatic gunfire outside the IGA at the Thunderbird Village mall in the Walnut Grove area just after 4 p.m. on Friday.
He had been airlifted to hospital by Medivac helicopter, but succumbed to his injuries early Sunday morning.
Teams from the Langley RCMP detachment cordoned off a large area and swept it for evidence.
Investigators are looking for information about a vehicle driving erratically near the Colossus Theatre between 4 and 4:30 p.m. on Friday -- they believe two suspects fled the scene and got into that vehicle.
Police confirmed that LeClair was known to them, but would not discuss any criminal associations he had. It's been reported that LeClair was a known associate of the notorious Bacon brothers.
Jamie and Jarrod Bacon are due in court Monday on gun and drug charges. But police aren't discussing the reported connection with LeClair.
Criminologist Darryl Plecas says today's gangs are less organized and more reckless.
"Ten years ago we had approximately 10 gangs. Two years ago, we were up to 50... [it's now] grown to over a hundred," he said.
"We need to have a situation where the courts take this much more seriously than they have particularly where people are involved in gun activity."
Police warn that people should be concerned about the recent escalation of violence. There have been five fatal shootings in seven days in Metro Vancouver.
