A man is dead after a fire broke out in Southeast Vancouver Saturday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at a home in the 900-block of East 63rd Avenue at around 4:45 p.m. and made short work of the blaze, according to Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services Capt. Gabe Roder.

When crews entered the residence, they found the body of a man who had reportedly been living in the house’s basement suite.

VFRS is currently investigating the fire.

Roder did not provide further details about how the victim died or the cause of the blaze.
