Midwestern Ontario is being battered with snow, with heavy winds, and blowing snow creating dicey driving conditions.

A burst of heavy snowfall is expected to push snow squalls south, with stationary snow bands setting up this afternoon and high accumulations overnight. This could result in up to 60 centimetres by Saturday evening. Environment Canada says higher amounts are possible.

Friday night will see the heaviest snowfall. Winds will gust up to 60 km/h, significantly reducing visibility.

Weather conditions will vary greatly from region to region, with changes from clear skies to heavy snow within mere kilometers.

Road closures are possible, and drivers are asked to adjust their driving according to the conditions. Unnecessary travel should be avoided.

Several areas in midwestern Ontario have had a snow squall watch issued overnight on Thursday upgraded to a snow squall warning which is expected to persist overnight on Friday.

Friday night: Flurries and local snow squalls ending around midnight, then mainly cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Local blowing snow in the evening. Wind northwest up to 50 km/h. Low minus seven, wind chill almost minus 15.

Saturday: Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries in the early morning. A risk of snow squalls in the late morning and into the afternoon. Loal blowing snow. Wind northwest up to 60 km/h. High minus five, wind chill approaching minus 16.

Saturday night: Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. Low minus seven.

Sunday: Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries. High minus four, low minus seven.
