Winter weather travel advisory in effect for London, snow squall warnings in place across region

A winter weather travel advisory has been issued for the London area. Snowfall accumulations of 5 to 10 cm is possible with blowing snow likely, reducing visibility on the roads.

Lake effect snow off Lake Huron will move south into the area late Tuesday evening before moving out of the area early Wednesday morning.

A snow squall warning has also been issued through Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce. Those areas could see up to 10 cm of snow accumulate.

“Expect some very rough road conditions and leave yourself lots of extra time as you head out the door tomorrow morning,” said CTV News London Meteorologist Julie Atchison. “You definitely will need it in terms of snowfall amounts.”

“Expect to encounter some heavy snow squalls now in the London area as we move into your Wednesday,” Atchison continued.

A biting wind chill will have the temperature feeling like minus 14 to minus 18 as we head into Tuesday evening.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has also issued its first cold weather alert for the year.

Tuesday Night: Mainly cloudy. Flurries beginning late this evening. Risk of snow squalls late this evening and overnight. Local amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40. Low minus 10. Wind chill near minus 18.

Wednesday: Cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. Wind west 20 km/h gusting to 40. High minus 5. Wind chill near minus 16.

Thursday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 2.

Friday: Cloudy with 30 per cent chance of flurries. Windy. High plus 1.

Saturday: Cloudy with 60 per cent chance of flurries. High zero.

Sunday: Cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries. High minus 7.
