Another veteran Liberal member of the B.C. legislature has decided not to seek re-election in next year's provincial election.

Dave Hayer announced his departure on his website, saying he has accomplished almost all of his goals during the 11 years he's been in public office.

The MLA for Surrey-Tynehead says those accomplishments have included a new Port Mann Bridge, expanded highways, an expansion to Surrey Memorial Hospital, new schools and more post-secondary spaces.

Hayer says while he's leaving politics, he'll always be around to fight for the community and the rights of others.

Premier Christy Clark says Hayer demonstrated leadership and perseverance and will be remembered as one of the hardest-working MLAs.

Fellow Liberal MLAs Kevin Krueger and Kash Heed recently announced they, too, will not be running in the election, set for May 14, 2013.
